2013 Vital Signs Report

Toronto Foundation's annual report on the state of the city of Toronto highlighed key data in the area of SAFETY that directly impacts the work we do at Boost.

Report Highlights:

"Toronto is a "hub" of human trafficking."  "Victims trafficked to, through or from Ontario were mostly youth (63% between the ages of 15 and 24; the most common age was 17), female (90%), and Canadian citizens (62.9%).  Victims were trafficked predominantly for sexual exploitation (68.5%).... 96.5% of victims experienced some or multiple forms of violence."

The reality of this data is in the work we are doing at the Boost Child & Youth Advocacy Centre. We are treating complex abuse cases and are seeing an increase in the number of teen victims of sex trafficking.

We are passionate about our work, and focus on the best interests of the children and youth whom we serve.  We recognize the uniqueness of each child and strive to adapt our services to be responsive and flexible to each situation.

Collaboration

We work closely with our community partners to develop, deliver, and coordinate services. We are dedicated to the mutual sharing of expertise and knowledge with other agencies, professionals, and the broader community.

Leadership

We are committed to continuous learning to ensure our knowledge and skill levels are second to none.  We are up-to-date on the latest research and developments related to the services we provide, so that we can develop and promote best practices.

Integrity

By putting children's needs first, we work at building effective relationships with children, youth, and their families. By our words and actions, we demonstrate respect for children, youth, and the families whom we serve.

Our Programs How We Do It

The number of children Boost helps is amazing, but sadly our services are in demand and very much needed.  The real story, however, is that we help the child be a child again.  The sooner help is offered, the greater the likelihood that the child will recover from the trauma and go on to lead a full, meaningful life.

Boost helps more than 2,000 children each year through the programs and services listed below.

Boost Child & Youth Advocacy Centre (CYAC) is a creative community response to child abuse investigation with the goal of ensuring children and youth who are victims of abuse and their families receive the very best child-focused investigation, treatment, support services, and advocacy under one roof.

Our Primary Public Education & Prevention programs offer training and support in child abuse prevention, recognition and intervention including, helping children decrease their vulnerability to abusive situations and increase their self-esteem and understanding of healthy relationships.

The Assessment Directed Therapy Program provides assessment & treatment for children/youth and their families coping with the trauma of abuse/violence.

Internet Child Exploitation Counselling Referral (ICE) is a counselling referral program for children and youth across Ontario who have experienced sexual exploitation.

Child Victim Witness Support provides child centered preparation for children/youth called to testify in criminal court.

Co-ordination & Support

In addition to our core programs, Boost has developed and delivered numerous specialized programs including a provincial training program for child care providers on recognizing and responding to child abuse and Boost has presented its work nationally and internationally and is often called upon to provide training and consultation to schools, treatment centres, child care agencies, police and other community agencies.

Ways you can help BoostWhat You Can Do

Yes, I want to support Boost in its mission to prevent child abuse and violence.

Your generosity and kindness mean so much to the programs we deliver at Boost. It is our objective to help children and youth through each step of their healing process. Last year over 1000 children and youth attended our centre for assessment, counselling and court preparation and our prevention program reached over 2,000 school-aged children.

Your gift will help Boost Child Abuse Prevention & Intervention continue the prevention and intervention work we've been doing for 34 years in the city of Toronto.

Here are a few ways you can help:

$2,000 - supports a child/youth's participation in the Assessment Directed Therapy Program

$1,000 - supports a child/youth to be prepared to testify in court in the Child Victim Witness Support Program

$500 - helps to support a child/youth through the investigation by the Child & Youth Advocacy Program
